Why has my electric shower lost pressure suddenly?
A sudden drop in electric shower pressure is usually caused by a blocked inlet filter, a scaled shower head, or a kinked hose. Check the shower head first (soak in vinegar), then the hose (look for kinks), then the inlet filter (needs isolating the supply). If all are clear, the shower's internal flow regulator may need attention.
Can low mains pressure affect my shower?
Yes — if your mains water pressure is low, every tap and shower in the house will be affected. If only the shower is low, the problem is isolated to the shower. If all taps are low, contact your water company to check the supply pressure at the boundary. In Woking and Surrey, mains pressure is generally good at 2–3 bar.
How much does a shower pump cost?
A twin-impeller shower pump costs £150–£300 for the unit, plus £100–£150 for installation. Total cost including parts and labour is typically £250–£450. We fit Stuart Turner and Salamander pumps, both with manufacturer warranties. Pumps are only needed on gravity-fed systems with a hot water cylinder.
Should I replace my shower or repair it?
If your shower is under 8 years old and the problem is a specific component (cartridge, head, hose, filter), repair is usually the right choice. If the shower is over 10 years old, has multiple issues, or the heating element is failing, replacement is often more cost-effective. A new electric shower installed costs £280–£400 including the unit.
