The Problem
A homeowner in Weybridge was refurbishing their family bathroom and needed a qualified plumber to handle all the plumbing work. The existing bathroom suite was being completely replaced with a new bath, walk-in shower, wall-mounted basin and close-coupled toilet.
The bathroom was being fully re-tiled and the homeowner had stripped the room back to bare walls. The pipework needed re-routing to accommodate the new layout — the bath was moving from the left wall to the right wall, and the shower was being installed where the bath had been.
The Diagnosis
We assessed the existing pipework and confirmed that the 15mm copper hot and cold supplies were in good condition and could be re-used. The existing waste runs were 40mm PVC and needed extending for the new basin and shower positions. The toilet waste was a standard 110mm soil pipe that remained in the same position.
The water pressure was measured at 2.0 bar static, which was suitable for a thermostatic mixer shower. We noted that the floor joists would need notching to accommodate the new waste runs, and we checked that the joist depth was adequate for the required falls.
The Repair
We installed new hot and cold supply pipework to the bath, shower, basin and toilet positions, using 15mm copper with compression fittings for accessibility. The waste pipework was installed in 40mm PVC with appropriate falls. The bath was fitted first, followed by the shower tray and enclosure, basin, and toilet.
A thermostatic bar mixer shower was installed with concealed pipework behind the tiling. The wall-mounted basin was fitted with an isolation valve and flexible connector. The close-coupled toilet was fitted with a new pan connector and isolation valve on the supply.

Outcome & Advice to the Homeowner
All bathroom plumbing was completed to a high standard. The new bathroom worked flawlessly — the thermostatic shower maintained stable temperature, the bath filled quickly, and the basin and toilet operated correctly. The homeowner was very pleased with the finished result.
We recommended that the shower thermostatic cartridge be descaled annually to maintain performance, and that the waste traps be checked and cleaned during any future maintenance visits.
